Robin Rabenschlag
Owner, Licensed Midwife
Certified Professional Midwife & Clinical Director
Aside from being a midwife, I am the mother of six beautiful, grown children – five girls and one boy. My youngest are identical twin girls. I’m a very proud grandmother (“Oma”) of eighteen grandchildren! I am also the proud mama to several fluffy feline children. I have multiple college and university degrees in the sciences, have attended nursing school (University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio), and I completed my midwifery training with the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program after beginning my midwifery education in Germany. Starting in 2002, I worked as an educator at a local college, primarily teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology. My college teaching days ended in 2012, with very fond memories. All the students I encountered there were fascinated to learn that I am a midwife, and I loved teaching them about the human body. As an educator, I enjoyed taking that fascination and offering them the opportunity to learn about birth in a positive way. I have also been a clinical preceptor for student midwives since 2005 and, in 2013, served as a mentor/preceptor for nursing students. I was an active member of the ATM Midwifery Training Program Education Committee, as well as an academic instructor from 2006 to 2014 and from 2019 to 2021. In 2018, I became the Clinical Director at Westover Hills Birth Center in San Antonio.
From a very early age, I knew that I was destined to work with mothers and babies. I grew up being a caregiver, especially to babies, being the oldest of 6 children, and helping care for the many young foster children in my parents’ care over the years. I was also very proactive in my mother’s births. Together, we attended the earliest Lamaze childbirth classes and La Leche League meetings in San Antonio. At the young age of 19, I immigrated to Germany, where I started my own family. On my very first day in that country, my mother-in-law picked up my hands and said to me, “Du hast die Hände einer Hebamme!” Translated, that means: “You have the hands of a midwife!” That was the spark I needed to know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Germany taught me how childbirth should be – in the caring hands of a midwife. In most of Europe, midwifery care is the norm, NOT the exception!
It has been an incredible journey that has brought me to where I am today. Throughout the years after returning to Texas in 1994, I was one of the original doulas and a doula trainer in San Antonio. I have worked in local hospitals in nursing, as a childbirth and breastfeeding educator, and as a staff doula. I have also helped open and practice in other birth centers in San Antonio, and I thrive in that atmosphere. I also owned and operated a home birth practice for many years.
For many years, I have also focused my attention and knowledge on helping mothers of multiples and have become nationally recognized for my work in multiple births. My home birth practice, “Multiple Blessings Childbirth Services,” originated from that work. Twin births have always been very dear to my heart, and as a midwife, I offer mothers expecting twins the opportunity to birth their babies naturally and safely with midwifery care.
Another area very near and dear to me is VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). As a mother who has experienced an emergency cesarean myself, I feel it is my duty, not just a passion, to help mothers who have endured a cesarean birth in the past, to fulfill their dreams of having a safe, natural birth with their next babies.
I am also very proud to possess a skill that is a dying art in the obstetric world – vaginal breech birth. My experience with breech births is extensive, having completed numerous specialized training courses to maintain the skills and proficiency required for various breech delivery maneuvers. Mothers who find that their babies are “upside down” at the time of birth do NOT have to give up their plans and dreams of a normal, natural birth and agree to an automatic cesarean delivery. Under the right circumstances, most breech-positioned babies are fully capable of arriving earth-side as nature intended, and I am very honored to assist these unique births.
As a firm believer in education and with the philosophy that training and learning never stop, it is my goal as a midwife and educator to help all families bring their children into the world in a safe and comfortable home-like environment, because they have the knowledge to choose what is best for them. Over 1,300 births later and working with close to 2,000 families, I strive to be the best caregiver I can be. Birth is a blessed event and should be trusted just as we trust every breath we take. Allow me the humbling honor to help you bring your baby into the world.

Alisa Voss Godfrey
CPM (Retired)
Birth and Midwife Assistant
I am happy to introduce myself to you. I am a kind and genuine soul who loves people and is inspired by the uniqueness of each human experience. I am a daughter and full-time caregiver to my mother. I am a mother to two children born from my body (one came to my arms via an intense and gritty home birth, and one was a beautiful, empowering hospital birth supported by midwives) and seven adult bonus kids, with a grandbaby on the way! I love yoga and endurance hiking, home improvement projects, and growing my plant babies and small garden.
In the summer of 2025, I joined the WHBC team as a birth assistant, and I’m so excited for this new chapter. Fun Fact: Robin and I met in 1996 – which means we have been colleagues for decades!
In 2021, after over 30 years in midwifery, I closed my birth center and midwifery practice (the former San Antonio Birth Center, which served families from 2007-2021), and I retired – truly thinking my season of supporting birthing families was indefinitely complete.
Birth work is intensely beautiful, sometimes dances in deep sorrow, is incredibly draining, and can be quite difficult on the family of the birth worker, all while it is simultaneously the most rewarding work on the planet. Throughout my years as owner/manager/preceptor/clinical director of my own birth center, I consistently struggled to find a sustainable way for our staff midwives and me to have enough downtime to balance both a midwife’s life and family life, as well as care for ourselves as individuals. I never found the balance for myself. Hence, I walked away – knowing in my soul that working on myself, healing my nervous system (from decades of an on-call life revolved around service to others), and being present for my family was my next chapter. Yes, I knew I would miss holding space between the worlds, but I chose me and retired.
After a few years of finding my equilibrium, in the spring of 2025, I found myself with six pregnant friends (!!) all due within months of each other. This coincided with life changes that allowed me the capacity to hold hands and rub backs, encourage and support, as a friend, doula, and the midwife’s assistant. With no intention of returning to the unpredictable life of welcoming babies, there I was, loving almost every moment, and making it work.
Officially, I am still a retired midwife, but being able to use the skills I gathered over decades and share my 30+ years of knowledge while lovingly supporting my midwife sisters has brought so much joy into my life. I’m so happy to be able to support Robin and Westover Hills Birth Center in this small way as a birth and midwife assistant. And who knows what will come to be as this chapter unfolds. I am working to reactivate my midwifery license and may step in and do more in the future.
I am delighted that you get to meet me through this bio, as we may not meet in person until you are in labor. But know that I hold every family served by WHBC in my heart and hope to meet you in person – maybe in the hallways of the birth center – or maybe on your baby’s birth day. 🧡

Stephanie Lerma
Administrator/Office Manager/Birth Assistant
I’m not just Westover Hills Birth Center’s office manager and administrator; I’m also Robin’s daughter! I started my role in the front office in January 2020. Through the years, I have had multiple different medical office careers, from a treatment center receptionist to a new patient coordinator/insurance verifier at a Diabetes Clinic. For the last 2 years, I have also worked as a home healthcare provider. Through all these experiences, I’ve gained the knowledge to be able to operate the birth center office and provide the best service possible!
Before becoming the smiling face behind the counter, I started at the birth center a year prior, doing housekeeping and cleaning after births. I have also taken on the task of being the office decorator. Decorating is like therapy for me! From Valentine’s Day to Christmas, I strive to keep the office festive for our families.
My love for our families and midwifery care goes beyond being the daughter of a midwife. I am a mother of four, 3 boys, and 1 girl, ranging in ages 8 to 16. My oldest son and daughter carry the proud titles of “Oma” Robin’s 1st grandson and granddaughter! I am also a proud furry baby mommy to 2 cats and 2 dogs! After having 2 induction hospital births, I knew I was ready to make the switch and have my mom, Robin, help me when I was pregnant again years later with baby #3. Pregnant at the same time as my younger sister, due only 5 days apart, a Midwife Mama’s dream came true and we both went into labor on the same day. A quick decision was made to switch from a planned home birth to a birth center birth so Robin could go back and forth between the 2 birthing suites! The difference between the care I received from my OB and hospital staff with my first 2, to the care I received with a midwife, was so special to me. I felt encouraged, I felt important, and I felt empowered. Almost a year later baby #4 was on the way and I knew, after experiencing the difference, the only option for me was midwifery care again, with a beautiful home birth at the end of it all! Having experienced these very different births helps me today at the birth center as I am able to share my stories with our Mamas, helping and encouraging them along the way! Recently I have also had the honor of becoming a birth assistant on top of my many other roles at the birth center. This by far, being my favorite now. The connection I get to build with our mothers is indescribable, and some have turned into amazing friendships! Whether I’m charting during labor or holding a hand (or leg), working alongside of my mother has been the experience of a life time! The passion I have grown for midwifery care throughout the years, not only with my own experiences, but through working at the birth center, has encouraged me to continue my education in hopes of one day becoming a midwife myself!
When I’m not at the birth center, you’ll find me cheering on my boys on the field as a proud Football Mama, or at a Dance Recital/competition as Dance Mama for my daughter! If I’m not doing that, I’m out and about spending time with my family and friends. I’m also the proud owner of a fun “side gig” called Steffi’s Celebration Creations setting up balloon arches and décor for parties/special events! It’s definitely never a dull or boring day in my world!

Amber Rabenschlag
Receptionist
Amber is the newest smiling face at Westover Hills Birth Center, serving as our new part-time receptionist.
Amber is Robin’s daughter-in-law, married to Robin’s only son, Eric. Amber is a mother of 3, all born naturally, with her firstborn at home into Oma Robin’s hands as grandbaby #3 back in 2011. Her children range in age from 9 to 14, and she enjoys all the family time she can get with them, as well as the
occasional Mom’s night out! Amber’s background is working in finance and insurance. She has also campaigned for women’s rights and breastfeeding, the right to birth naturally, have access to midwives and birth doulas, to be informed and educated, and to get the care that women deserve! She’s a great asset to our staff to help us empower our clients and their families!

Christina “Kina” Jimenez
Lactation & Breastfeeding Educator
Christina Jimenez (also known as “Kina”) is our newest staff member to help teach our childbirth and breastfeeding classes. She is a certified educator with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s in Health Science. She has been teaching for 10 years. She has a history of teaching high school AP biology and college-level biology, anatomy, and physiology, and has been an instructor at a local college for 4 years. Christina is also one of Robin’s daughters! Standing in line as #5 (technically, born 1 minute older),
she shares the spotlight of being one of Robin’s youngest with her twin, Kameron! While Christina is not teaching, she spends time with her four beautiful children: Emilia (9), Charlotte (6), Joey (4), and Vivienne (6 months). As a mother, Christina has extensive experience with breastfeeding as a new mother, tandem feeding, NICU stays, and pumping while working full-time. She has a published thesis titled “Characteristics in hand expressed and pumped human milk” where she compared composition of macromolecules and inflammatory markers within breast milk samples from local mothers from San Antonio, and also mothers from across several states and into Canada. In her spare time, Christina has experience counseling mothers with breastfeeding needs and is more than happy to help serve women and babies in San Antonio!
